Abstract The environmental control system (ECS) is the largest auxiliary power consumer, i.e., around 75% of non-propulsive power, among aircraft subsystems. adoption a novel ECS architecture, based on an electrically-driven vapor compression cycle system, can enable twofold increase coefficient performance at cruise conditions, as compared to conventional air machine. core this technology high-speed, miniature centrifugal compressor, consisting two impellers mounted in back-to-back configuration, and running gas bearings, operating with refrigerant. fluid dynamic design optimization twin-stage be installed test rig under realization Delft University Technology, documented paper.
